Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is a feminist media critic, public speaker and Canadian. She founded Feminist Frequency the website which includes videos and comments on portrayals of women in popular cultural. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic, blogger and award-winning feminist for nearly 10 years. Feminist Frequency - a not-for profit website that focuses on gender representation in popular cultural narratives is founded and directed by Sarkeesian. The challenge of destroying stereotypes regarding women is the main goals of her work. However, Sarkeesian also discusses issues of targeted harassment against women online and other minorities which are left out. Sarkeesian holds a Masters in social and political thinking from York University. As a public speaker, she's extremely sought-after and has given talks at TEDxWomen XOXO and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Feminist Frequency was founded on the 9th of September 2009 by Sarkeesian. a University student who has been interested in issues related to gender and feminism since a long time. The ambitious lady planned to start an internet-based series on the role of gender in games however, she was also the subject of an online harassment campaign. The attack wasn't enough to stop her. It actually increased her importance as a feminist and media critic. To honor the numerous contributions she has made to feminist movements, she has been the recipient of numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her efforts as a critique of media and founded Feminist Frequency. Feminist Frequency is a non-profit organization that investigates women's representation in contemporary pop culture.
